Dr. Goura Kishor Rath is the Head of the newly established National Cancer Institute-India (NCI-India), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, currently under construction in Jhajjar, Haryana. Once built, the NCI will be a unique institution devoted to the translational research and treatment of cancer, and the training of the next generation of scientists and physicians dedicated to eradicating cancer in the nation. Dr. Rath is a highly decorated scientist and physician. He took his MBBS at Utkal University in Orissa, later receiving his M.D. in Radiotherapy from AIIMS, New Delhi. His specialties are in radiation oncology, gynecological and breast cancer, and brachytherapy. He was named Chief of the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute-Rotary Cancer Hospital since 2007 and named as Head of the NCI at AIIMS-II Campus at Jhajjar in March 2014. Among his many awards and honors, he has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Radian Oncologists of India, and recipient of the “Hindustan Bhushan” for outstanding contribution in improving Health Services. In addition, he has participated in numerous conferences, committees and delegations on behalf of the Government of India. He serves on the Governing Bodies of four Regional Cancer Centers in Bikaner, Allahabad, Cuttack and Agartala, and is the Chairman of the selection committee for the new AIIMS in Bhopal, as well as Chairman of the Expert Committee designing the NCI at Jhajjar. Dr. Rath also serves on the editorial board of several oncology journals and textbooks, as well as author of 37 book chapters and hundreds of journal articles.
